Getting To Know Me

I am a lifelong resident of St. Clair County. I graduated from Ashville High School in 1993, attended Snead State Community College, and graduated from Auburn University in 1998. My Bachelor of Arts Degree is in Public Law and Conflict Resolution. While attending Auburn, I interned with the Lee County Probate Office. After graduation, I began my public work experience as a production manager with Tyson Foods, outside sales for Coca Cola Enterprises, and sales representative for Jenkins Brick Company. I became self-employed in 2012 as GM at BPW in Trussville. Currently, I am the Owner/Operator of GNX in downtown Ashville and Moonlight Farm. I am married to Misty Smith Thomas, my wife of 26 years. She is a retired educator/coach who is now the office manager at GNX. With my wife's background, it has made education and sports an important focus in our lives.

 I have 30 years of diverse business experience that has helped me to become a seasoned professional with a record of growth. I have a culture in my business where I enjoy walking in the door every day, with a smile on my face, excited to work hard. I deal with the public on a daily basis and can relate to all walks of life. I would approach the commission position with the same enthusiasm and work ethic.  From the corporate world to private business, I feel I have a unique skill set that can blend the best from both models. Also, I am no stranger to working through stress and pressure.

Over the years, my family has influenced my life in such positive ways. Blessings from God have made me who I am today. I am a hard-working, determined, business owner. Given the opportunity, I will bring new creative views to the table. I will make thoughtfully vetted decisions on challenges that our communities face and opportunities that will arise. I commit my time and effort to the deserving residents of St. Clair County!
